The Pressure Cooker:
The Indian Coaching system
The Indian Coaching system
In India, which has set its sights on the moon, aspirations can reach astral heights. This relentless pressure from the cradle onwards dictates the lives of the Indian middle class. Then, one day, the pressure cooker explodes, and dreams turn into nightmares.

what we were trying to do?
Trying to understand a un-sustainable system, how is it un-sustainable, chalk out the system and find leverage points that can be converted into concrete interventions on a system level.
background
What do we understand by traditional coaching?
In context of India, it refers to the special after school or in schools classes provided to students in order to prepare of competitive exams, mostly to get into colleges & universities.
By coaching for traditional career options, we mean coaching for more socially acceptable careers in India, namely, engineer, doctor, lawyer, chattered account & government positions.
A RAT RACE.
The Market Scenario
mind map
Mapping our understanding of the system
The first step of the process, was my team and I mapping out what we could of the system based on what we were aware of.
Later we expanded on certain areas after our primary and secondary research has finished.
research
What is coaching in India truly like?
With the mind map, the gaps in our understanding had come out quite clearly. To understand the entire system more deeply we started with research, which was split in two parts: secondary research & qualitative primary research.
insights gathered
What we discovered in the den
After a long and tiring research process we had gathered a lot of data. To make sense of it all we grouped what we had learnt into six major categories.
system mapping
Making sense of the tangled web
Finally we went back to the drawing to bring together all work, ideas and thoughts to truly map out the system. This helped us see angles buried in the corner which we had missed and finally narrow to potential solution spaces.
The case study is not over yet,
